'97 xtz660 tenere exhaust options
 

Searching for some sage advice and I seem to have ended up here!
Just bought a '97 660 Tenere which has, I believe, a Predator stainless exhaust system. Sounds horrible at low revs and on overrun (nasty bark) and the bike feels a bit flat. Where the downpipes meet, the single pipe is a smaller diameter than standard (I have my brother's bike next door to compare) which seems a bit wrong to me. BTW, carb's clean, as is filter and bike pops on overrun suggesting to me it's a bit rich. Anyway, I want to change it to something not too loud, but with a nice burble, without rejetting ideally but am struggling on Gargle searches to find any useful info for this era of Tenere. Will probably return to standard downpipes but any recommendations for endcans /slipons would be gratefully received.(Standard endcan too heavy/ugly/rusty!) Reasonable budgetary limitations apply!!

hi have a look at ebay item 251642619198 has some other nice parts as well,i think the end can could be taken apart and the dents smoothed out and then pop rivited if you wanted to, hope this helps steve

Thanks for the reply, but I'm really after suggestions from experience (ie sound quality/volume, jetting requirements, sources - what other models etc) rather than just shopping blind, so to speak. There seems to be very little web comment on this era - searching xtz660 tenere just bombards you with info about the new efi model.

I've been on the 'phone to Motad and splashed out on their lovely stainless headers, and will be taking the bike to them to have a link pipe made up to join onto probably one of their Venom end cans. Very helpful people, and as I already have one of their pipes on my ttr325 I can vouch for the quality of workmanship. Photo will follow once the dust settles. Thanks for everyone's input.
