85 Xt600 cold start

Hey there, new to the forums saw activity for these old thumpers here.
So it's probably been asked plenty of times but I am having a real difficult time with this bike when it comes to cold starting. I've replaced these as follows

-Both airfilters
-Carb boots
-Spark plug
-Fluids
-petcock + added in-line paper fuel filter
-Rebuilt carb and cleaned thoroughly
-Valve adjustment as per manual
-Adjusted decompression cable

To confirm there is spark as my friend learned the hard way when testing.
When I do manage to get the bike to start it certainly isn't in a couple of kicks from cold start. After the bike warms up I have 0 issues with the bike and it will start first or second kick afterwards.

Hopefully I can get some insight on the potential issue, thanks for your time and here's a picture of er.

Hi and velcome! Seems like you have problem with the choke on the carb, use the search part in here and you will find similar carb problem.

Thank you, I will check it out.

Edit : I didn't realize there was a choke passage. So that's probably where the problem is, I know it was sticking a bit but couldn't figure out why.

Yes that's the first thread I read, a lot of good info especially jetting sizes.
Thank you a lot.

Yeah, make sure choke passageway is clean.
Each bike has its own technique.
I alwasy start with the following for coldstarts;

Ignition off, fuel on, choke on.
Give it a few kicks to "prime" it
Ignition on, and it should start in 1-3 kicks. My xt550 needs a little throttle after it starts, to help it running. I guess thats okay for a 36 year old bike.

I shut of the fuel a couple hundred meters before im home. Its a habit, but I had that working in hotstarts on my xt350.
