3AJ Tenere Headlights

I can't get the lights to focus anywhere other than about 20 feet infront of the bike while driving. I have screwed the adjusters in and out 'till i'm blue in the face and nothing changes. Very dangerous at night.
Are there any tricks to raise the beams.
I've tried jamming a lump of rubber between the lights to try to lift them but eventhough it looks as if the lights themselves have lifted the beams haven't.
The front doesn't sag that much.

As a general comment, all XT lights are crap.

I used a longer bolt in place of the existing one, and screwed it in/out as far as I could.

Solution...got the three pin connectors from the lights of a volvo est, cut off the old bayonet connectors, rejoined and used 60/55w(original 55/50w) halogen, the original bulb clips hold the new bulbs in place perfectly. It's like riding in daylight.

There was a thread a long time ago about this issue - the pins and adjusters in twinlamp units wear and vibrate until they no longer hold the reflector / lens units in place properly. I did a bit of a fix on my old bike (now with Barry Johnson) which involved new bolts and zip ties. Worked for me!

Another solution is to have one very bright bulb and one standard one. You can reach down and plug in the bright one when you need it (even while riding, with some practice). This means that the bike will charge really well when only one of the lights is lit.
