3AJ tank protector bars
Has anyone had any experience of these and what's available? What I am referring to are those tubular steel frame mounted widgets that wrap around the tank +/- engine (often in scary sizes and shapes ie Rikki Cross)
I manage to drop my 3AJ (usually on it's left hand side) when playing/touring and last year creased the left side of the tank, split the seam and ended up spending a deal of money getting it all sorted out. I tried a set of, I think, H&B bars but found that they were geared very much to the sitting down road rider and as soon as you stand up they press hard against ones shins. Not very comfortable. So any ideas (apart from "Don't drop the bike!")? Regards John |
I want to weld up a set for myself. If you get anything, post pictures please.

Hi,
I think the Riky Cross bars are still shown on their website, and can still be purchased. Here are a couple of links which show the instructions and fixings I received. UK Tenere Owners UK Tenere Owners Ciao, Geoff |
gulp!
Some complicated pipe bending there. Looks like that could be fun trying to get it all symmetrical. I suppose it will keep me in the garage and out of the pub for a weekend or two. The missus will be delighted. :-D |

I have been looking since getting the XTZ660 in December, and I threw it down a pine needle covered track last week scratching the faring, so these were overdue (dunce) and I haven't seen any others readily available. I even rang a Dealer up that was selling a bike with some on, but he wanted £200 to consider taking them off it |
Well the H&B bars arrived today, they were very easy to fit, and offer decent protection for the front fareings.
I was a bit concerned when bfgjohno said they pressed against his shins when standing, anyway the ones I received give plenty of clearance so i am happy with them |
