3AJ Clutch Push Lever setting?

I need to do the clutch adjustment after taking my clutch off. To set the 'push rod No.1' at the correct point, you have to move the 'Clutch Push Lever' (on the left side of the engine) to a certain position. This position is to align 2 markings, 1 on the Lever itself and the other on the casing. How do you see these markings?

The level and markings are hidden under the starter motor. Do you have to take the Crankcase Cover and Starter Motor off to do this? I would hope there was a quicker way?

I have tried mirrors, but cannot see how it can be done without taking the Crankcase Cover off as the main problem on a 3AJ1 is that the cover extends up to cover the Starter Motor drive.

Appreciate your help with some advice on how to do this.
Thanks, Geoff

No worries. I have taken the clutch off a couple of times, including replacement of plates, and never readjusted the thing, except of course the cable. Bike still runnin' and clutchin' sweetly.

So, just put back everything.

Auke,

Unfortunately I have lost the settings of the 'push rod no.1' and clutch lever adjustment. So I need to set the 'Clutch Push Lever' at the right position to set the others correctly.

Thanks, Geoff

A nil post to put my request for help up to the top.

Please help with any advice if you are able to.

Thanks, Geoff

not necessary to dismount the side cover.
just dismount the starter motor.

Thanks Klaus, I will have a go. The old non-starter motor models certainly had it easier.

Best regards

Sorted. Thanks Klaus!

For information, I was given an excellent description on taking the starter motor out by Jim on the UK Tenere site:

Having done this by the book, and hopefully understanding now the mechanics of this type of clutch, I see what Auke was getting at and will most probably take his approach 'next time'.

Thanks all, Geoff
