1997 yamaha tt600e speedo drive
 

The plastic drive peace inside the drive unit has worn to an extent that it's know good, dose any other drive unit fit the tt 600, or can I service the unit or will I have to pay lots for a new unit

I would think the XT drives would work as well, The axle should be the same unless they changed it for the newer bikes. Look on Ebay.

hi I think everyone who has a tt600s/r/re has had the white plastic gear wear and its not available as a spare part, although some plastic gears for Yamaha mopeds are (have a look on ebay),stupid eh a bigger bike is bound to have higher mileage so the chance of needing this gear is more likely ,also the tt600 speedo drive is on the other side to xt600 so the gear is the wrong hand,white plastic gear working against a metal gear stupid ,my old 1981 sr500 had all metal gears first time I regreased it was at 95,000 miles ,my tt600r has the same speedo as you ,progress not steve

I think all the older brands used all metal gears and not much problems even when neglected. Might have to check into using a drive unit off a DR, XR-L, or klr since they run that side also. Differences in drive methods probably will require the wheel hub to match, but once sorted, no more bad speedo drive. I used an XR-L on one of my XT's to move the drive unit over and used a Honda front wheel. Works the same as the Yami one. The Honda Unit kept my oem Yamaha speedometer accurate enough as the original. Needs to be off a 21" tire bike for best chance of staying ok , maybe the DR or Klr won't be as close, don't know.
