1991 XTZ660 seat removal
I am sure this is a simple procedure, but I can not see how to do it!
I have a workshop manual on CD but it does not seem to explain this procedure. It just says `remove seat`, which is really descriptive! I can`t see any catches anywhere and I don`t want to start removing bolts unneccesarily. Any info much appreciated. |
Mark, there are 2 bolts beneath the seat that secure the seat to the rear subframe. They are directly underneath, about 2/3 of the way back, and they require a M10 socket. Other than that, you lift the seat at the rear and slide it back a little to disengage the plastic tongue at the front of the seat.
It's a process that I'm sure you will get lots of practice with - I've seen one bloke weld wing-nuts to the bolt heads to make removal a tool-less job... |
Hi Mark,
There are two M6 bolts on the underside of the seat that fasten throught the subframe. Look under the rear mudguard above the rear wheel. If they are still standard a 10mm socket should fit be warned they may be seized. I would recomend replacing with stainless bolts when replacing the seat. Good luck. Regards Sam. |
Thanks guys. This is the first bike I have owned with any off road pretentions and things are a bit more basic. I am used to having to turn a key and just lifting the seat off!
Has anyone got any experience of the taller screens that are available for this bike? |
I was not willing to fork out 60 odd quid for a taller screen so I improvised! I had an old visor from a Shoei which had a few scratches and I cut a lump of each side and carefully drilled 3 holes to fit it as a kind of extension to the existing screen. It works a treat and doesn`t look to sh1te:thumbup1:I have also fitted a new baglux tank cover (cheap off ebay Germany), heated grips and a 12v socket. All I need now is a second hand Givi wingrack and make up some brackets to fit it so I can use the panniers I already own. Why haven`t Givi made a system for this bike. It was in production for many years so there must be a market?

Givi did make a wingrack
Hi Mark,
There is definately a wing rack kit for this bike, I had one for my bike in 1992....when I had a new one, the top box had a universal plate to fit to and the side panniers (38litre) were mounted on the wingrack. I remember a dedicated kit for it..... With I think a universal wingrack, vaguely remember unboxing it from new! Good luck Jamie |
You are right Jamie, but they have discontinued it! I have just bought a second hand wingrack which I am picking up tomorrow which I will butcher onto my bike. Not to bothered about appearance as it a tool, not an ornament.Apparently the wingracks are being phased out entirely to make way for the lighter Hepco & Becker style bike specific systems.
