1991 XT600KH crank shaft bearing replacement ?
When I was replacing the 5th gear I noticed the left crankshaft bearing radial play (wobbling). Is it possible to replace only the left bearing or the left crank wheel + bearing + camshaft sprocket must be replaced as a set ? Are there any special tools needed ?

No. You can press off the gear for the timing chain and replace the bearing. Then press on the gear again. Recommend you also renew the right hand bearing at the same time. Not very expensive, they are both standard bearings. Check: for the older XT600 types right and left bearings are not identical.

Thanks
Could you tell me what is the proper removing order: 1)Press off the timing gear and than pull off the crank shaft (bearing stays in the crankcase)? OR 2)Pull the crank shaft off the crankcase and then (when the crank shaft already removed) press the gear and bearing off the crank shaft? Michal |
First remove the crankshaft from the LH case. Heat up the case, not the shaft, slightly, put in two M8 bolts into the two tapped holes, make sure they push correctly against the shaft. Tighten evenly.
Then, with crankshaft removed, press off the timing wheel. Don't worry too much about correct alignment of the dot on the timing wheel when pressing it on, you cab set timing with the marks on the flywheel and crankcase. Installation of crankshaft: shaft into freezer, slightly heat up the case, it should slide in easily. Auke |
Thanks for help !!!
I guess - installing the crankshaft in the crankcase by reversing the steps. Any problems with pulling it back ? Michal |
