1990 xt600e no spark at coil

:confused1: I did a dumb thing (I think). My battery was low, and I tried to start the bike with the battery charger hooked up and turned on. Since then, it won't start. It seems to crank fine and normal. According to my voltmeter, I have 12 volts going into the ignition coil, but no spark at the plug. A new plug didn't fix it. Measurements of the coil were according to the shop book specs, so I assume the coil is OK. Just because voltage goes to the coil, nothing happens until the voltage is broken and I can't tell if it is being broken. It normally used to start with the kickstand down and in neutral, or with the kickstand up and the clutch pulled in and in neutral, but now it won't start in either situation (kill switch in run position). I'm wondering if it could be the diode because I don't know it's purpose. Fuse is OK. Can anyone :helpsmilie:?
