1990 xt 600 oil capacity
 

I just changed oil and filter on my bike, how much oil does the bike take. I just put 3 qts in. I did start it up and the bike is still low. Now I have done this plenty of times and don’t remember then again I usually by the big container of yamaha lube,this time I bought 3 qts that is what the counter guy said. Thanks

90-95 manual (quite universal) says following:

Periodic oil change: 2.7 L (2.4 Imp qt. 2.9 US qt)
With oil filter replacement: 2.8 L (2 .5 Imp qt. 3.0 US qt)
Total amount: 3.3 L (2.9 Imp qt, 3.5 US qt)

Yes with filter 2,8l and no you cant just start up and check oil level because it need riding for temp and idle before stop and check. If you have problem with oil valve it goes from top tank to engine. But no worries fill up 2,8l and ride.
