1986 XT600Z 1VJ parts compatibility

G'day everyone. Got an old 86 XT600Z 1VJ from my old man that's pretty beat up after a life of racing followed by arguments with steers on the farm. Problem is I'm really struggling to find parts. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of compatible parts?

One thing I've almost given up on is finding a tank, I'm almost committed to chopping and welding as best I can around the existing mounts. I heard a rumour an old TT might fit, or potentially a 3AJ.

Thanks in advance

1VJ Parts

Hi there,

wau, your new bike looks quite worn ;-) .... but you can restore it, I am sure. My 1VJ didnt look as bad, and is restored and modified now back on the road again.

Most 3AJ parts will fit the 1VJ. In Europe you can still get parts for the 1VJ/3AJ used on Fleebay or from wreckers. Or Kedo GmbH in Hamburg comes to my mind (www.kedo.de), they have a good online parts list.

Good luck.

Hello mate,

As a starting point, I'd use the schematics for the original bike which you can find on (or a combination of) sites like CMSNL, Motorbike Spare Parts or Fowlers UK. That'll help give you a list of the OEM part numbers.

Then it's a case of desk research to cross-reference the part number you are after with different Yamaha models; paying attention to the first three letters/numbers of a part number helps with this because they typically tell you which Yamaha/XT bike model uses that part and so on which model they were introduced; if you then put that OEM part number into the search function of the above sites, they'll often tell you which models they were used in too.

E.G. I've just ordered some new intake manifolds for a 2002 XT600E 4PT engine from Kedo (as per the above). For one of them, the OEM number begins with '1VJ' and other one begins with '43F' - which tells me one of those manifolds with was introduced with the 1VJ XT600Z you have and another was introduced with the first non-Tenere XT600, the 43F model.

There's a list of different model codes here on the Tenere.co.uk website which will help and a recommend you familarise yourself with - https://www.tenere.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=537 and https://www.tenere.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=61

Drop me a DM if it'd be helpful to have a chat.

Cheers,

Ed
