1986 XT600S - TK Carb Coasting Valve
Hi All,
Having an issue while running in the 2000 to 3200 RPM Range. Getting a miss and a lean type pop occasionally. Seems better above 3500 RPM... Could just keep the RPM up... but I would like to make the problem go away and not risk damage. I have been looking over many posts and it seems that this may line-up with other issues attributed to the Coasting Valve on the left carb - outboard side. I checked my spares and did find a complete kit for this. Is this a likely source of the miss and pop? Is this something I can do without dismounting the carb from the bike? If possible to do on-bike, then I will give it a go. Else-wise bike will be parked until I get another vehicle on the road. Thanks Mike |
The coasting enrichment is for closed throttle, not really at steady throttle . The rpm your having trouble at is about where the right/2ndary carb is coming on . It may be partially plugged or the slide not working right/sticking/out of sync, maybe a crack in an air line . You will probably need to take the carbs out , unfortunately .

I've had great succes with the cheap rebuildkits for the carbs on ebay.
Search for "xt600 carb rebuild kit" and get the ones complee with needles, needlejets, all the jets, float valve ect ect. I used the 90-95 xt600k kit for mine, as it came with a bigger idle jet which I knew suited my mods better. Otherwise just get the model listed to your model Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBURETOR-...1:pf:0&vxp=mtr |

Thanks folks... it has been a while since it has been out and attended to. Will be ordering a kit and getting the old wagon fixed, so I can get XT on lift, and carbs out.Any other primers on how to best be about it? I do have my factory manual to follow.
