1986 XT600 Tenere. Overland mods.
 

Hello,

I have just bought a 1986 tenere. It's an italian import and has both electric and kick start. Very original and untouched. I intend to do a long rtw trip on this bike in approximately a years time. Apart from the obvious and essential modifications does anyone have any other suggestions, engine/suspension modifications? Also any known faults or downfalls as on overland bike. I've done a fair bit of research already but am always looking for more info and ideas. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Bought my '86 ex-Italian xt from a guy who had just come back from an African trip .

He had it prepared by Dave Lambeth who fitted a later 3aj gearbox to fix the fifth-gear problem on 1vj's and also an up-rated oil pump.

Heavy-duty spokes and some uprated springs were the only other mods.

The 1VJ had problems - make sure you do some modifications before you leave home...

They are capable, definitely good bikes - but prep him well...
