DZL, if you had just some oil leak, i can understand reusing it...

but it's apples and oranges...

the cam chain wheel on the crank is a super strong press fit on the shaft, there is no keyway, not sure why you are saying this
never ever saw one that shifted. sounds like something is wrong in RSC's alignment process

Agreed in this case will need a new head gasket, just on general pull down I have reused.

Who said the crank cam gear has a key? Not me. The flywheel has a key. From experience, the flywheel on my TTR600 moved on the crank after the key snapped. The flywheel nut was not as tight as it should be on disassembly so that may have been the cause, but it spun that much the bike wouldnt run at all. The key actually snapped and flywheel moved about 5mm from where it was supposed to be. No I have never seen a cam gear slip but it is a remote possibility.

as you turn the crankshaft anti clockwise the first marks like a H are the timing marks. As you turn slightly further, the next mark is the TDC. If you think TDC is still marked incorrectly then you will need to remove flywheel. there is an arrow marked on the crankcase and the dot on the crank cam gear that should line up. Best done with dial indicator on the piston to work out exact true piston TDC.
