1986 - tenere

Hallo all tenere experts!

I have recently bought a 1986 Tenere and am looking for some guidance regarding servicing, parts etc.

firstly - what is the model name for this bike? I have seen all types of letters and numbers banded about. Is she a 1AJ? She is an dual start model. (red and whire with a single headlight).

Secondly, are there any dealers where you can pick up spares, filters etc for the bike?

Finally, as a mechanical numpty - are they easy to work on and are service manuals available anywhere?

Help all round I guess

Hi mate,

Also only recently bought a Tenere 1983 model and found strangly enough Yamaha to be the cheapest with servicable spares i.e. oil filters, plugs etc.
You can probably buy a plug cheaper elsewhere but by the time you travelled to save a few pennies...

The plastics are harder to come by and expensive but still available. Manuals are availble on the net in the form of Clymer.

I am still learning all the little tricks the bike play on my mind but fairly simpel to service and keep in order.

Type number: the frame number, first 3 positions = type number. I suspect yours is either 55W or 1VJ.
So the number would then read 55W - NNNNNNN.
If the engine has not been exchanged the number on the frame will be identical to the number on the R/H side of the engine block, on the ribbed rectangle behind the cilinder above kickstarter.
