120, 130 or 140 rear tyre.

Just wondering.

My XT is usually fitted with a 120 rear tyre.

Now, Im certain it will take a 130 and even a 140.

Has anyone got experience with comparison footprints ??

Thinking of fitting a set of trail wings for some road bashing and wondering whether to give a 130 a go for a wider and maybe more stable foot print.

Cheers, ed

Ted, my XT600E is fitted with a 130 road tyre at the back.

Full spec: BT45R 130/80-17 (65H).

The road tyres work very well as I mentioned in your other thread.

Michelin

I have a Michelin Sirac 130/80/17 rear and 90/90/21 front. Bike (1993 XT600E) handles quite well in the dirt and on wet roads. Cheers, tom.

The T66 rear I got in Hungary after my cursed TKC80 rear failed (for the second time!). It's not much of an off road tyre but on tarmac it's fantastic. Feels really positive and secure, even in the wet. I'm starting to think for my current usage (short trips, some off road, some pure tarmac) that the key is to hone them tyre change skills and get a tyre properly suited to the trip you are going on. So I'm sticking with the T66 on the back, Trailwing on the front (just 'cos the damn thing won't wear out!) and am getting some Pirelli MT-21s delivered any day now for the dirt. I'd definately replace my road tyres with T66s or similar in the future, very impressed by the wear rate and handling.

Matt :)

Oh, not going to make it to the continental HU meets this year unfortunately, although sorely tempted by the HUMM!
