04 tt600re electrical problem

Hi guys,

I was driving in heavy rain and the bike started stalling for a few seconds and then drove ok. When I stopped at a petrol station the bike wouldn't start. After 5 minutes it started. The next day it wouldn't start. The green light comes on but no oil or neutral light. When I push the starter nothing.

I checked the fuse its ok. I ordered a new starter relay but still the same. While fitting the relay the end of the earth lead from the engine to the relay came off. I thought I found the problem. Fixed it on but still the same. The neutral and oil light not coming on, does that point at anything. Any ideas.

Regards
Ronn.

Sounds like corroded connections. Pull the plug off of the ignition switch and see if it is corroded. Clean with contact cleaner. Put silicone grease on the plug and the pins to keep water out. Could be elsewhere too, you just have to inspect the wiring.

I have checked the wiring and cleaned the connections from the battery up to the ignition switch. Power is going up to switch. I suspect the switch itself. The neutral and oil light are still not coming on. Does this point at anything.

Yes, no switched battery. Ig switch could be it. Usually the red wire on the switch is from the fused battery lead, the brown is switched battery. See if you can measure battery voltage on the brown wire. Turn switch on and off to see if it follows it. Put volt meter black lead on battery minus then find a good frame ground point and see if it measures the same. I've heard of the ground wire going to the ig coil mounting bolt being broken inside the wiring harness.

Yes.
The neutral and oil pressure lights are not coming on.
Why not? Find that and you may find out the problem.

Power on to the ignition switch .. but nothing on power coming out of it .. doh

There is a small blue wire that goes down by the side of the left hand side engine case, between a little slot on that case and the engine that connects to your neutral switch.

If that connection is broken the bike won't start!
I don't remember if the bike will start if you pull in the clutch and remove the side stand.

Also, What oil pressure light? there is no such thing on these bikes mate, is there?

Hi
The ign switch seems to be ok. I ran a jumper wire up from the neutral safety switch to the blue wire connection under the seat and neutral light came on. Your right there is no oil light. So the problem was the blue wire from the neutral switch is broken.

Thanks for all the help.

Ronn
