In principle, yes to a women's forum, but a couple of questions...
 

Interesting thread, and since Grant is away for a couple of weeks in the US, I guess it falls to me to provide the official HU response ;-)

I think there is merit in having a Women's forum. The main advantage I can see is the one Maria pointed out, that women's topic threads will tend to disappear in the vast sea of HUBB threads, so unless you search on a key word you may not find them.

An additional advantage is that some women might be more inclined to post a female-specific question there than on the other forums.

Just to be clear - it couldn't be restricted to women, we have no practical way to do that on the HUBB, so men would always be able to post (or lurk!)

But, there are a couple of questions to be answered before we could establish it.

First, what would you call it? Suggestions?

Second, we would need a volunteer(s) to moderate it, as with all Forums. Perhaps Charlotte and/or Maria?

Susan I could help to moderate, although I am starting a new job on the 21st and may have much less time to spend on the hubb! So I would prefer to share with someone else! Maybe Charlotte or any other volunteer. I don't see any problem with another moderator being a man to be honest!

I know its not very PC at all, but I do like "the kitchen" - I think some women may be up in arms with that name! I have no other real suggestions "ladies bar" sounds good to me!

As for moderating, I would certainly volunteer for that, no problem at all. I assume there are rules and regulations just to keep an eye on. But yeah sure - whatever needs to be done, I'm up for it!!

Susan and Maria, I completely agree that the ladies bar will
1) ensure that female biased threads are not lost in the HUBB ether, and
2) encourage more women to post
and, as you say, I certainly dont like the idea of men being barred - they normally have a far more black and white approach to things than women, which will be heartedly wlecomed!
I tried to get that through in my post but I think it was maybe lost.

Look forward to hearing more on this soon. Let me know what you need me to do.

Hi Charlotte and Maria,

If you're both happy to co-moderate, what happens is you get a copy of each post made to the forum, and mostly keep an eye out for spam messages and delete them.

In some of the other forums, flaming can get out of hand (emotions run high on some topics!) So there's also a need to 'police' the place and, if necessary, delete posts or parts of them. In extreme cases, the moderators have the authority to hand out penalties which add up and may result in suspension or banning, but that's rarely been needed, even in the Bar. If in doubt, you can refer a post to Grant or myself to rule on.

We're quite proud of the level of discussion on the HUBB, and part of that is the 'zero tolerance' for personal attacks, which is enforced by the moderators and ourselves.

That's pretty much it, if you guys are willing to co-moderate, I'll get Grant to set up the forum when he's back on the Internet.

For now, let's call it 'Women's Topics', to discourage posting of topics which should be relevant to the guys too and therefore would be better posted in one of the other forums. We can always rename it later if someone comes up with a better name.

Susan, if we can retrieve the very popular thread I started some 2 years ago on women stuff, could we move it to the women forum as it had lots of very interesting ideas? So that it get us started! I wanted to forward it to someone recently but I could not find it!

OK, if a man may pop in with a light hearted suggestion, Call the forum 'the kitchen' most men won't come anywhere near it :) Or, call it 'the Laundry basket'. Most men won't actually know where it is nor what goes on in it :)
On a more serious note though. I don't care if it was restricted to women only, the things women discuss when with women are not always for men's ears :)

Easiest way to find old threads is to Search (above on the right) on a word or phrase in quotes. In this case, I searched on 'menstrual' and only a few threads came up!

There's no way to restrict the forum to women only, as the software isn't smart enough to figure out from someone's e-mail address or HUBB ID whether they're male or female! So, if guys don't want to blush, they'll just have to stay away!

Women's only discussion at the meetings
 

Hi Kirst and welcome to the HUBB!

The UK meeting had around 50 women at the women's only discussion, but that reflects the size of the event and the fact there are over 100 women attending. But in the beginning it was much smaller...

I usually host the women's discussion if I'm at the meeting. Unfortunately, work prevented me from getting to the Germany meeting this year, but will definitely be there next year.

Meanwhile, Charlotte and Maria have offered to moderate this new forum for us, which I see you've already contributed to the older thread, so thanks for that!

HI in response to the question what may be a good dual sport bike for a 5ft.6" lass the BMW r850r r1150r could be a poss choice i bought one two years ago they have the same frame as the 1150 gs but have a lot lower seat height iv put avon distanzia dual sport tyres on so apart from a lower ground clearance its proved to be a very capable bike gravel roads grassy tracks etc makes a great alternative to the mega tall gs for maybe half the price There is also a lower seat option and as for accesories a lot of gs1150 bits fit another good point as i found out on a BMW off road course (highly recomended) if u drop one off road they only go to about 45 degrees as they rest on the pots makes picking it up again far easier

Hope this maybe of use as its just another option
