offroad training recommendations
 

Im really hoping to up my skill level and do the TET but am aware that with technical sections i'd love to get more experience and confidence.

I have been offoad - did the White Rim Trail Moab on a 650 and Black Rocket Desert/Soldiers Meadows in the States but that was straight after passing my test and with my previous off roading been the old kent road toys r us car park ) Survived it , love it, but at the moment i dont have a dual sports or off road bike so would need hire included, and cost wise it's super expensive. Hoping that there are recommendations of places in Europe to go and do at least 1-2 weeks worth of riding.

There are people who do trail riding holidays in Spain. Good fun, wonderful countryside and 99% probability of good weather. Start with www.torotrail.com, he has bikes and gear to hire, guest accommodation and a wealth of knowledge of the best places to ride. Be warned though, a couple of weeks won't be cheap, and in that sort of time you're going to be repeating places you've already been.

Not sure where you are located. If in the UK, you could get a cheap 125cc enduro bike and join the TRF, good bunch of people and good advice. That could be a cheap good start.

Yamaha has a very good off road training in Wales but they get filled quickly. Maybe they Also run those weekends off road days where you are? Price is more reasonable than, say, the bmw off road weekend. Much cheaper!

Another cheaper way to do off road and rent a bike and not get gouged for it... try a holiday in Vietnam. You can rent a little 125cc that will get you through anything. Good fun, very cheap and amazing holiday. I think I put details of rental company , along details of the trip in my website ( link In my signature - check previous trips page).

I would imagine you could do the same in Thailand, Malaysia and countries like these, where renting a small local bike can be very cheap and plenty of opportunities to ride trails and get dirt road / off road experience.

Gaz, at adventure bike warehouse, used to do off road days in the Peak District on 250s and he was very reasonably priced - check out their website.
Look up trial riding training days which are usually run by enthusiasts and often a lot cheaper than off road/adventure training.
There are loads of off roads holiday companies on the continent but they’re not cheap if they supply bikes.

If you intend to do some of the TET anyway you may as well get yourself a bike and do some training on that - Sweet lamb would be perfect :thumbup1::mchappy:

Trail School Pyrenees - Austin Vince


I declare no financial interest, but Dai is a friend of mine, and as the webpage describes, works a lot with Austin Vince. Their approach is inclusive and empathetic and testosterone is not required!
Doing a course would be a trip in itself and would set you up for anything the TET might throw at you.

Where are you located? There are several parts of the TET you can do with limited off-road experience (I did so to). And you'll learn as you go;) The sections in, for instance, the Netherlands are not that difficult (mostly just really sandy). So if you'll manage to hire a small motorcycle (450 or lower), you should be just fine.

So my advise would be, start the TET in an 'easier' country and try to learn as you ride.
