Wich bike to carry (outside) in a truck?
 

Hi everybody!

I've bought a 4WD truck to make a RTW travel as soon as I can. We will be two travelling in the truck and I want to carry a motorbike in the back (outside from the truck). So I want to know your opinions about the best option I have to achieve for this purpose. The characteristics shall be as follow:

- The bike should be as light as possible. You have to think that I will carry with the bike on the back of the truck, so easy to get on and get off.
- It must have a minimum offroad capabilities. Not too much. Just a bit (for the rought roads and streets all over the world, not for the desert and Dakar rallye...)
- it's not necessary that the bike holds a 4-strokes engine. It can be a 2-strokes also.
- it can be an off-road bike or simply an scooter with off-road tyres on it.
- It can be new one or used one.
- The purchase price should be between 300- 900 euro
- Easy to find spare parts

- Yamaha TW'S
- Fantic Koala
- Yamaha SR250 (is it possible to put off-road tyres on it?)
- Honda CB 250 (is it possible to put off-road tyres on it?)
- Honda Innova (is it possible to put off-road tyres on it?)
- Honda SH Scoopy 75/100 (off road tyres?)
- Piaggio Liberty 125 (off-road tyres?)
- Honda XR 600
- Yamaha XT600
- ...

For that budget I would stick with a pedal cycle.

Yes totally agree I would go for a birdy folding bike, very light German made bike,
Folds down to a nice transport size, I flew to Ireland few years ago and I took my birdy in my luggage, then cycled round the lock for the weekend then flew back home.

You do not mention how far it needs to be ridden away from your truck and if you will be carrying a passenger, if you are just travelling the local town and not venturing too far then its hard not to recommend a Honda C90, if you need something a bit bigger then the Yamaha TW200 is a good lightweight bike that with the right gearing and those big tyres is quite good off road.

You did not say what you intend to do with the bike. If it is just going on errands and not riding 2up, you might want to consider the lowly Peugeot 103 moped. The current incarnation, the Peugeot Vogue, weighs 48 kg.

I need the bike to ride just through the small villages and through the big cities. And sometimes, a bit of offroad, but just ocassionally.

I like a lot the Honda C90, but is not possible to find it in my country. Honda never sold this bike in Spain...
