Which XT is best?
Is the Twin headlamped Tenere the better bike for overlanding, and why? Compared with the other XT 600s. Also would it be any good for 2 up through Africa (Morrocco through to Cameroon, maybe further depending on money and civil wars). Would the africa twin be Ok if we stay off the pistes etc. cheers Gill and Darren

Probabily the best XT is the 1987-1992 2KF - with kick-starter , good suspensions ad frame suited also for off-road - the original Teneré -the 34L series was the best refined and still good .
All the singles are REALLY too small for confortable Two-up , an Africa Twin or Superteneré are way more adapt at it ...but an AT is an HEAVY bike and two-up means a lot more weight...why not choosing 2 xt's ? the cost will be roughly the same as ONE AT and the pleasure and safety will be GREATLY improved. |
hi.
IMHO the best of tenere are model 3VJ 1989-1991(?)= xt600z tenere /big tank/ -model 2KF was in the same years? ------------------ best regards Grzegorz Zajac |

a friend of mine has a 3aj blue with 2 headlamps, 88 or 90 model i think and seems to go on forever, he's had it a while, other than a manifold it's just kept going through the abuse. However I had a 350 which was a bag of nails spwewing oil from everywhere but thinking about it, it still rode nicely until the rectifier went. I looked at a trail bike the other day a TT250 and it has 61,000 miles on it's clock and still runs and looks/sounds like new, how this is I don't know but think the XT is a good bike as long as you don't buy a dog.
