Suzuki dr 350 for a pie monster

Hopefully going for a ride next year to India and maybe across Russia.
Im on a seriously tight budget so i was thinking of taking a dr350 (cheap, air cooled, six gears, reliable hopefully) the only concern is that i weigh in around 17 1/2 stone and about 6ft 2. Do any of you larger fellas out there have any tips? or should i consider taking a tractor haha. cheers Jim

ps. Huge fan of Mondo and Terra boys:thumbup1:

It'll carry the weight okay as long as you fit a heavier rear shock spring. Not sure about height, I'm a shade under 6foot and have a feeling I might find my DR a little cramped if I were any taller.

My DR did well on a run to Mongolia and back this year. Start of the trip was carrying 4(!!!) tyres as well as my usual luggage, and second half of the trip was riding 2-up (along with all the gear for 2 people camping in cold climate).

Hi Nath, what a fantastic blog, sounds like you had a great time and the DR behaved itself, very inspirational. If your ever down south call in for a beer although be warned i got a million questions for you.
Cheers Jim

Hi Jim, I'm in North Dorset, Sherborne.... :thumbup1:

Most important thing is to get a comfy bike, doing all those miles.... No matter how big, powerful, tough, reliable a bike is, if it wears you down and is a pain to ride, its NO good

I have a nice '04 TTR 600 thats a nice comfy ride, and you can pick them up real cheap too

Hi Pigford, i used to live in sherbornre opposite the rugby ground, still go there as my parents live near Milborne Port.
Thanks for the advice mate, i really do like the ttr looked at one last week ive had a couple of wrs a 400 and 450 both great bikes. I was thinking a dr would be cheaper leaving more toot for the road, but as you say no point being uncomfortable i was thinking of a good sheep skin and a pot of vaseline or changing the seat filling. Would be good to meet up mate.
Cheers Jim:thumbup1:
