Super Sherpa
Have a look at these links from Kawasaki Australia:
http://www.kawasaki.com.au/kawpublic...uperSherpa.pdf The Sherpa is based on the Stockman: http://www.kawasaki.com.au/kawpublic...seStockman.pdf Now take the racks from the Stockman, put them on the Sherpa and you have a great little overlander. Maybe a pipe and some airbox mods, a couple more ponies, and get off the road. Yes its not a superbike, may be slow on the freeways etc etc but for South America, Africa, even Aus, it would be good. Why rush? Don't tell me how its not a GS etc I'm an advocate of these growing up with them, particularlythe Yam's, BUT they were all 200 or less, and only 4 speed. Actaully Kawa is my least fave, but they're bringing me round, with 250cc and 6 gears (maybe over kill, but could be good on the flats and down hills). Great one for my the vertically challenged aswell. |
Well, I didn't reliase this bikes been around a few years, never seen one in Aus, but has anyone had any experience with them?
|
Currently ride around Tasmania's gravel roads on one of these. Had it from new and now 10,000Km with no probs. It's built like an ox which i am not so it suits me (as well as being vertically challenged). BUT it is slow on the main roads. So I am completely in 2 minds as to whether to "upgrade" to a DR650 for a mainland run and beyond. If it were 350cc it would be perfect.

Headwind on the Nullabor...I'd want the DR, but, if you read the 12/06 Two Wheels, a couple of those lads were the Nullabor off roads on DRZ 250's.
Again, depends how fast you want to go I guess. A lot taller too. If I had a DR i'd offer a state/bike swap..... |
...and I thought Tasmania was windy enough!! maybe those extra 30Kg of the DR or so will help keep me and it on the road...
The sherpa starts feeling overexcited at 70km/hr (that's my main concern).it would just "be nice" to have a gruntier engine (in Oz definitely) I think...but all things are possible..even posties..and yep, like the sherpa they are very pushable..should the need arise....... |
Funny as we wirte this, the latest twowheels magazine has a page on a couple both heading off on Sherpas with a 40lt tank from Safari tanks. Should give them a 600km range.
I agree more grunt is good, but these keep calling me for some reason... |
