Just curious really.

I had one and I really liked it. I had Super moto rims put on the original hubs, and it was a scream. Pulled storming stoppies!! Having said that it handled perfectly well on the original wheels too.

A bit heavy for a single cylinder, but it had a decent tank and a token fairing. MPG was repectable at about 55-60mpg (urban and motorway).

So, who has overlanded with a Honda NX650 Dominator, then?
I don't mean just tarmac; I am curious to see who has ventured onto the less beaten track on one of these.

Also what mods were made?

Ground clearance was not what you'd expect on a trailie, but then they aren't trailies. The front mudguard would probably be a problem too.

Did you change anything?

pics would be cool too. I sort of miss mine...

I miss mine too! (Although not when I'm riding my 98 Africa Twin) I went from London to Cape Town on it 4 yrs ago (pics and stuff on the link below).
Amazed you got 60mpg out of it! I don't think I ever got more than about 45.

I rode it daily 30 miles to work and another 30 back. 25 miles ech way was mpootorway and the rest London traffic. London riding was utterly on7off riding: no finesse what so ever!!!
On the motorway, though, I saw no point stressing the engine to get home a few minutes sooner, so it was a steady 55-60mph in top all the way: I think that made the difference.
Otherwise it would have been at about 7.5 mpg:oops2:.

So, what did you do to yours to get it up to the challenge of Africa?

I took it to see David Lambeth, who gave it back with an 18 inch back wheel, Metal Mules with a rack he made himself, ammo boxes mounted low down for tools and stuff, a tall screen (which I removed by going through it in the Sahara), an old GPS on a Touratech mount (that used to belong to Chris Scott, fact buffs) and a 22 litre Acerbis tank. Oh, and Acerbis lever guards.

It was great!

Of course, why not?? After all undoing the mounting screws is soooo boring!!:innocent:

In all seriousness, sounds like a nicely prepped bike!! It handled the sahara OK?

It did - I didn't. Forgot to mention it had Michelin Deserts as well.
