Royal Enfield's HIMALAYAN

Check this out.. Royal Enfield have produced a new bike, an adventure bike aptly named the 'Himalayan'. Designed from the ground up, with a new LS410cc engine, suspension, and with disc brakes front and back, the bike looks a treat. The company stresses that the bike is only being released in India presently, while a battery of in-house and public (owner) tests are undertaken before offering the bike up to o/s markets. As yet, it does not have ABS Brakes, nor does it have a catalytic converter, and so doesn't meet with Euro-4 emission standards.
But, having looked at the bike on the web (link below), I must say that I want one. It is almost worth a flight to Chennai just to buy one and start riding from there.

Have a look yourselves and see what you think. I reckon you will agree that this bike will be an excellent adventure bike, and will sell extremely well. :thumbup1:

Saw it on TV a few weeks ago, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder! To me it looks like it fell off the ugly tree

Here's some downsides to the bike, as it is at present:-

Yes, it looks bloody awful and there are build quality issues, but if someone is in the market to buy one and ride it through India and beyond it would be a good choice, personally I would rather ride something less hideous.

Has their reliability improved in recent years? I had a 1995 Bullet 500 for 4 years: while a fun experience, I can't say it was the most reliable bike I ever rode...

If Enfield come out with an all-new bike, I'd let them produce it for a couple of years or more before I'd plunk down my hard-earned cash for it.

Yes, it's a shame that the quality appears to undermine what should be an awesome bike. But, then these are early days for this model and I'm ever hopeful that they will correct these idiosyncracies by the time RE is ready to push forth into the global market. Like someone else said, " it'll take a few years of refinement before it's good enough".
