Road Bike for 2up SA to Egypt
 

Hey guys,

Just in the early stages of planning a 6 - 8 trip next year from SA to Egypt.

I'll have my other half on the back.

Looking to buy a decent second hand road bike for the trip.

Complete newbie to bikes and our only experience is riding one for a month through Vietnam.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what models would be a good fit for us?

Honda CB500, a good reliable bike with more than enough power and space for two people.

Thanks. What sort of money would a bike like that cost second hand do you know? I'm just trying to get an idea of prices so that I can factor in the cost of it, combined with the carnet deposit etc.

I am only familiar with UK prices where you can get one for under £1,000, although it would be worth paying more for a lower mileage model. I am talking about a bike that will be 10-15 years old, there are later models up to £4-5,000 but the older one in reasonable condition will be up to the job and a much cheaper carnet.
