RD03 Still viable?

Hi all, looking at some options for bikes to go to Morocco on. I think my plan is to mostly travel on road as much as possible. I plan to do some dune riding, however I think what I will do is ride to a place that does this and hire a modern offroad bike (ktm or whatever they have) and do the actual dune riding on something smaller and lighter. Then carry on with my road trip. Does that sound like an okay idea? Would I be crazy to try and do this on an old RD03?

I just love the look of the old bikes and think they would make a great "kepper" bike. Also seen a dakar replica one for sale currently with a replica rear mounted tank which is really cool and practical for overlanding. These bikes have obviously done some amazing thing - the limting factor in this case will be the rider.

So in the end, I got a 1991 RD04. I'm very excited.

The RD03 would have been lovely but due to license entitlements I need to get whatever bike I buy limited to 47bhp, and for whatever the RD03 doesn't have a limiter kit (at least not one any of my local garages could get hold of). I'm going to go through the bike over the next months and see what I feel like changing.

Will post a trip log when it's time!
