Not much talk of KTM?
 

I hope the lack of topics related to KTM does not reflect on the bike as a choice for a long distance trip...
Am considering a new 640 adventure because of its weight and offroad abilities but am planning a long trip and am concerened about the comfort and reliability. Are my concerns justified?

Take comfort first cos thats an easy one, mine is completely unmodified and i have just done 30,000ks over the last 9 months getting myself from UK to Oz. Yeah, if you spend to long on it, six hours ish, it can become a pain.... but that discourages you from trying to cover to much distance in one day, which i put as a plus point! If you want it more comfy get a sheepskin or the seat re upholstered.

As for reliability.... to be honest i have had a couple of problems with mine, but at the end of the day they were all sortable in one way or another, even if that ment begging a lift from a guy with a pick up truck.... and it hasnt detracted from the my experiences in any way, in fact i often smile about them. Also, having spoken to a couple of others on KTM's, they have only experienced the reliability akin to an Africa Twin on theres, but i have also spoken to several others with say BMW's who have had far more agro than me....

The plus points is there handling, on and off road, there interesting bikes to own and when you drop it you can pick it up on your own without even having to unload your luggage. I wouldnt swap the bike for any other... good luck on your choice.
