Morocco on an Sv650
 

Hello knowledgeable friends,

Can I get your opinion, do you think its possible to painlessly make it to the sands of the Sahara on an SV650 (budget sport). My route would be south from Tangier then over the atlas following the Ziz gorge then on to Erfoud and keep heading south till the sand stops me. All in a week to 10 day time frame in Morocco in early March. Or would I be better of on my mates DR350 he's trying to flog me?

If It's "untill the sand stops me" I'd go for the SV 650. 99% of your route will be tar and that will be more confi on the SV

If it's till the sand stops you that'd be somewhere just south of Touz, first 30ks is easy gravel then deep soft rutted sand for about 60ks with feche feche, did it a couple of months ago on an old R80G/S with full luggage and spares, about 250kg all up, crashed about 5 times in the sand till I got my technique right, there is a route around most of the soft sand and once we found it it was easier, I wouldnt attempt it alone, after picking the bike up for the third time I was wiped out. Took us three days to reach Mhamid but it was fun and awsome scenery, mail me if you want to see some pics
