Looking for a bike.

I am currently looking for a bike. Ultimately would like it t carry me to the 'stans and possibly Mongolia - Magadan.

Any opinions on the CCM 604e DS? These have a rotax engine which is, I believe a good strong engine and would be easy to fix.

Would this bike be good or a mistake?

You mean something like this -

With a bit of prep I'd take mine on a trip like that. I'm not so sure spares would be that much of an issue - most of the running gear is big name stuff and as easy or as hard to fix as anyone elses. The engine is pretty solid and reputed to be good for 50-60K+ (mines not there yet).

Downsides - it's heavy, maybe too heavy but it depends what you're coming from and what your expectations are. Stock fuel tank is too small (13L) and bigger ones not easy to come by (the one in the pic is a rocking horse rare genuine CCM P-D tank). I've heard it said that Suzuki fit aftermarket tanks may fit - don't know, but I do know Honda fit ones won't go on (without a load of frame and possibly tank hacking)
Good electrics (surprisingly) but the world's worst carb - some Dell Orto thing. Other than that no real issues. It's not sophisticated but it is solid - and cheap.

60mpg unloaded on a run, 50 with boxes.

Thanks for the replies.

As for a DRZ400s Im not sure I fancy the 60mph top speed, or the seat.

I think I really would like a BMW Xchallenge but they seem to be pretty hard to get hold of.
