Looks like you've hooked a big one Chris. You really should post a disclaimer on your tongue in cheek BMW bash posts so the poor noobs don't get sucked in and chase your shiny lure.

BTW, what's happened to the hordes of BMW loyal Huns who used to come out of woodwork and attack anyone who questioned the genetic superiority of BMW?? :smartass:

All on ADV Rider I'd guess ? ... you know ADV Rider, where you post your ride reports ... on your BMW! :mchappy:
Guess HU won't be getting many BMW ads anytime soon. :oops2:

Hardly Patrick. The thread title is "How much can bikes carry". Some bigger bikes, as the monstrosity pictured, can carry a lot, beyond even the kitchen sink. The use of 4 random emoticons demonstrates, even to someone with a sense of humour lobotomy, that the comment wasn't serious. Hence no "Huns" will feel the need to jump to any defense.

Posting RRs on Advrider is no surprise either. ( I believe one of your aliases was banned from there... :thumbup1: ) Everyone posts their RRs on Advrider as they generate much more interest than most other forums. That the one linked in my signature is on a BMW (actually a rebadged Aprillia, but that's another story entirely  ) is merely because my Honda couldn't handle the Siberian terrain and I hatched a deal with a mate to ride his bike. It's all described in the RR.

I love the endless anything vs dr650 debates. Maybe I could ask the site owner to start an entirely new section all of it's own. Would you like to become a moderator on it?

PS. I now own said RBA

Comparisons?

I have just completed a 1000 mile journey. ( A lot to some, nothing to others) It was done on a Honda NX650, I took the same luggage I would normally take on a Honda 650 Transalp. The NX650 struggled although it was easier to ride and my aging joints and bones could handle it when having to haul it through difficult terrain. However it could not handle the weight and luggage that a XL650 could although it is the same size engine and displacement and It all boils down to what you want to carry and what you are prepared to put up with. Lots of power and greater weight or low power, ease of handling and less luggage. For sure we have all seen entire families of third world countries being transported on a Honda 50 but I am sure they have not been travelling far as in 100's of miles in one go?

The wight of your luggage is proportionate to the size and power of your engine. A 1200cc BMW Panzerwagon will carry more than a 500 Royal Enfield, but can you pick the Enfield up if you drop it unlike the Panzerwagon unless you are built like superman?

There really is not an answer without a lot more detail as to want you want to do. There is no such thing as the "perefect bike" it really is a case of what is bes.est for me given " such and such" circumstances.

Sorry for not being able to give the definitive answer to your question but there are so many variables that I doubt any one could without a lot more detail about your purposes, length of journey and route, destination, etc.

Hope this helps.
