Hey Czech Hubbers! Jawa Betka Question.
 

This is not really travel related, even though an ultralight moto trip would be fun on that bike.

She is so nimble, so basic, so utilitarian and so reminds me of my misguided youth. Not too mention my kids could ride her too in the moped configuration. Why don´t they get their own motorcycle licenses?

Unfortunately I don´t speak Czech, so gleaning more info about this little beauty on the internet is pretty hard for me.

Such I am asking our resident Czech Hubbers:
- what kind of reputation has the Betka?
- Is it still a common ride in the Czech republic?
- Could you recommend a Czech dealership stocking Betkas?

This thread might have a lot of info for me, but as I said my Czech is non-existant.

This particular Jawa looks a lot like the old Slovak-made Babetta moped except it has a four-stroke engine. I'm guessing that the Betka is a bought-in, badge-engineered machine.

While I have had a lot to do with Czech motorcycles (Jawa and CZ), my experience is limited with regards to the Babetta. The bigger stuff is remarkably robust and seem to run forever with minimal care. The Babetta's were a bit less reliable with the odd problem with the two-speed gearbox in that older model.

I lived in CZ a decade ago and never saw a Betka (or a Babetta, for that matter!). There was a guy in the small town I lived in who used to ride his retired Stadion moped on weekends, but that was about it.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Long-haul travel on a 45 kph moped could be exciting, almost as much as riding my 50cc ex-pizza delivery scooter (I did a 912 km ride on it a couple of months back to participate in a charity ride for 50s).

Hi, i googled this and came across this www.jawamoped.com/html/betka.html which was in english. Hope this helps, though frankly this feels more like aiding and abetting which could be considered an offence!:eek3:

These bikes are manufactured in China by hundreds of different factories. Quality depends on the factory, could be good or poor, best to take a look in person. This bike has nothing to do with classic Jawa's, it's a copy of a Japanese machine, I guess. Shouldn't cost much more than $500.
