GS650 vs Terra 650 vs KLR652vs DR 650??

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to do some adventure touring around Australia and in future the world. Look at 650cc engines but stuck on the variety that beholds me. I was orignally looking towards the BMW GS650 Sertao however all bikes have there pros and cons. Currently I'm confident the Husky 650 Terra could provide me the enjoyment I'm looking for in a bike but I'm still confused. Could people please provide there opinions and experience on these bikes and of which they think is best. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Marc, welcome to HUBB.
First of all, assuming you're prepared to buy new or near new, then discount the DR and KLR as I believe efi is the way to go: smoother, better economy, self adjusts, etc. Then of the other two I'd sooner get the Terra (MHO here) - more poke, less bulk = more enjoyment. Or even consider the Strada: 19 front and all tubeless, also the way to go IMO.
The Sertao is certainly better equipped but you clearly pay for it; with the much cheaper Husky (new for new @ UK prices) you fit what you choose (screen, plate, guards). A Sertao looks pretty lardy alongside the Terra, but also more comfortable. Never rode the Terra long enough to assess the seat, but it wasn't wide.

If you're happy to settle for an old dog - get carb bike. Good chance of buying a used one well equipped for travel in Au.

Seconding on the Terra. EFI . . . definitely the way to go. It's a KLR killer - way lighter. The Sertao is a "lardy" Terra.

The only downside, MHO, the Terra is a 5-speed.

if it is for the future..
consider fuel economy, prises are only going up.
consider weight, when you drop it you need to pick it up.
consider fun, when you can ride on the limit of the bike now you'll be bored next year and looking for a new toy.

oh and curt, black it is the new orange, just ask billy
