F750GS anyone?

Just spent a week on one. Very nice it was too (alongside 310s).
Great road bike (brakes, suspension, motor).
Fine on easy dirt, all things considered (Anakee road tyres).
Feels a lot like the old 700/650.
And a whole lot cheaper than the 850.
Long version here, fyi.

Thanks for the review Chris - I always enjoy reading your bike reports but out of all the projects bikes you've created over the years do you have a stand out travel bike for your Moroccan/desert shenanigans?

I appreciate your comment.
I’ve enjoyed all my recent project bikes, but the XSR7 is a favourite.
Great engine and looks. OK mpg and OK suspension by the time I'd finished with it (but stock 700/750GS miles better).

Would love to see Yamaha make a Desert Sled-type Scrambler with the engine, but I think the 4 current iterations on the CP2 motor are all we’re going to get.

Yes Chris.
Still enjoying your old XSR700, even more now I've put it back to 17" front wheel and twin discs. The single disc was Ok but as its now purely a road bike the braking improvement is nice.
Sadly, I may be selling it as I no longer need its performance. I have an XT600E that I'm rebuilding and when its on the road I expect it to meet my needs. It will be interesting to see whether I want to keep the XSR or not. Probably the best bike I've ever had, and there have been about 50 others.

Funnily enough, I've had a mild hankering for a 3AJ 'twinlamp' Tenere.
Heavy, I know but never had that version.
There are loads in Italy at normal prices; a mate just bought a couple of k/s Teneres there.
But the reality would probably be relatively crumby 1980s tech when we knew no better.

Also wondering about scramblerising a Tracer 700; better protection, bigger tank.
Needs different wheels to be done properly. Tricky on the back.
