EFI vs CARBS

my capo nord is my first EFI bike, all the past have been carbs. i'm a little concerned about possible problems, with carbs i could fix it on the road. this EFI stuff i'm not so sure. whats everyones opinion on this? EFI BETTER THAN CARBS?

My 02 BMW R1150R has efi and is also my first efi bike. The system on BMWs seem to be pretty bullet proof. The only maintenence issue is balancing them. 17,500 miles last summer and no problems. It also works really well in the mountains. I couldn't tell by the bike's performance what altitude I was at. It all felt like sea level.

they say the set-up on the capo is bullet proof also...i guess i'll find out this summer. i live in new jersey, and plan on taking a ride out to montana. if there's altitude problems, they'll show up.

Tony.
Most modern fuel injection systems have built in barometric sensors to automatically adjust the fuel/air mixture for different altitudes.
I rode my Ducati to Bozeman from Ohio without any noticeable change in drivability.
Enjoy.

The only time my efi has played up was when the throttle cables reached the end of there useful life. This necessitated replacing them as they wouldn't remain balanced. As far as I am aware this is the first new cables in 50K.

That said if I could have carbs I would. I guess it is the fear of the unknown, and not being able to kid your self that you could fix it yourself in a pinch

How well do EFI systems cope with low grade fuel? Less then 90 octane, will it still work? I know that you can get the 1150 BMW engine set up to run on 91 octane.

Your EFI systems on both the BMW and the APRILLA should outlast the rest of the bike almost. As for low octane fuel, there are engine management chips available for the BMW but dont know about the CAPONORD.Try the owners club or something if there is one.
