Ducati Scrambler anyone?

Just wondered if anyone is using a Ducati scrambler as a travel bike?

Love the look and the used price is coming down, I'm trying to end up with just one bike that I can use for everything.

i know they are not going to be ace off road but as long as it can stay together on gentle trails and gravel I'm fine with that.

It needs to get me to work, cruise, scratch and tour and look good and not cost the earth to maintain and run. current road bike has my legs bent too much and I end up with cramp in my legs after 30 mins plus riding!

I know ducati's are a lot more reliable than they used to be and servicing is less often too but I can't afford to run a costly bike.

Also looking at Fantic Cabelero 500 but as they are sop new there is not a lot of info about reliablity etc.

The Ducati Scrambler's valve check/adjustment interval is every 7000 miles. IMO, much too frequent to consider as a "travel bike" unless you enjoy wrenching more than travelling.

Then don't get a Ducati. ;)

But yeah, any bike can be a travel bike. Have a look at the Yamaha XSR - same thing in terms of style, but has reliable, universal Japanese underpinnings.

Scramblers are not too practical IMO for travel, best for coffee shops trips though.

I agree that Ducatis are a lot better than they used to be - but they used to be terrible. I like Ducatis and I think the Scrambler looks like it might be a fun bike to ride, but if budget and reliability are major concerns I would be looking at something Japanese.

Cheers all for useful replies, your thoughts are echoing what I was already thinking. Just have to wait for yamaha to bring out an old skool looking xt or build my own using the ttr600 or xt600 as a base.
