Japanese bikes in HD style has been very popular.
And the market is full of used ones.
They are great in many ways.
800 cc is a good size.

Low seat. Around 700 mm
Does not require ladder to reach the seat.
Easy to reach the ground with the feet.

Low center of gravity.

Good comfort.

Good to carry luggage

But... suspension, bad roads ??
They are used most as "around the corner" bikes.

But way not give them a try for long distance riding ?

There is a chap I think from Bulgaria who rode around the world on one and had a good trip and not forgetting the bike that has visited most countries is a Harley so anything is possible.

People have gone long distance on a lot less suitable machinery than a Japanese custom cruiser. They're not my style of bike but there's nothing wrong with them for regular road use - or even some 'light' off roading. At least with most of them you can get your feet on the ground, something that the 'shorties' amongst us struggle with on some of the first choice machinery.

I always liked the 535 Virago.
Shaft drive and Yamaha build quality - too low for me though

Its been done a lot more than you may think.

I met a guy in the middle of the Desert in Sudan on a Harley Sportster. He'd ridden it there from Russia.

But the Russians are pretty hardcore..
