buY BIKE IN CANADA OR USA

hI EVERYONE, AM A NEW MEMBER
I HAVE BEEN AVIDLY READING ALL THE INFO ABOUT TRANSPORTING BIKES ETC FROM HERE TO THERE, i was contemplating taking my DR650 se from Brisbane to Valparaiso Chile and heading north to Alaska. which will take me a year plus. It appears from the hubb that writers are stating that buying a bike in Chile or Argentina has a plethora of border and customs problems.

Also with regards to some of the problems and costs, would i be better off just flying to USA or Canada and buying a bike and starting the other way around. So my question is what are the rules and regulations for a foreigner to buy a bike in USA with documents etc. Do I need a residential address and this and that. If you think it is a good idea to buy a bike ion north America can anyone steer me in the right direction where to buy to have it sorted for a big trip or what forum to organizes here before i go.
all abit confusing but y am sure you get the gist of my inquiry

prefer a Dr 650 Se Suzuki or KLR 650 Kawasaki, hopefully to be set up for a very long adventure ..
thanks in advance.

I think if you have the time, it's much cheaper purchasing in North America than actually shipping your bike over. If you are looking at the DR650, again can be purchased in the US and in Canada; but will be cheaper in the US. For registering and insurance, you just need a local address and I can assist for CAD and I'm sure you will find a member here that can assist for the US. Lots of good sites to look at for setting up your DR. At the end of your trip, you can just sell it. We have 2, so can assist if needed.
have you checked the For Sale section here, there are a few DR's available.

I have 2) 08 KLR's here in Colorado and would gladly kit one out for you. Colorado title can be had in a matter of hours, but not sure of the rules for international driver's license could check though.
I'm kitting one out now (just got a great deal on a Staintune:clap:) and could send pics upon completion. Deciding what bags to use, Pelican or aluminum.

Anyway, let me know if you would like to discuss further.

Mike
