Buell Same As Others
I've met American Buell owners on the Dalton Highway 9in the mud, well off the pavement) in North America and on the Pan American Highway in South America. Given the belt, wheel bearings and other well known problems, I see them as no better or less suited for South America than other "marketed" motorcycle adventure models.
In January, 2016 I met Roger Kersh, from America, who was riding up from lower South America to Colombia on his 2006 Buell, fully loaded on his 2006 Buell, having had "no problems," after using the same Buell in Europe, then shipping it to South America and working his way home. How over loaded? You can see his photo with motorcycle, under the April 16 post, Pic AR 14, here http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-america-87294 Best, Sun Chaser Around The World, again Great Around The World Motorcycle Adventure Rally |
Great to hear that Buells can record quite high mileages with few problems. I have a 2006 Ulysses, and it is the best bike I have ever been on. Great torque, comfortable and looks cool.

I did Anchorage to Buenos Aires - 15,000 miles over six months in 2008 on a Uly. It was faultless. No breakdowns or issues. It was comfortable and dealt with everything - including a fair bit of off-road, and two occasions when I came off. Just picked it up and carried on...
I did about 60,000 miles between 2005 and 2010 on various XB1200 Buells and never had a problem. If you get one that's been well looked after, I'd say go for it. |
Glad you guys brought this old thread back to life! :D
You did notice the original post date on page one ... ? YIKES ... How time flies! Really good to read all the positive Buell reviews! I got to test a lot of Buell's over the years and the Uly was about my favorite. Never rode the 1150 or whatever it was called. I worked at a magazine, we got a Buell about every year for 7 or 8 years ... we got to keep the Buell Uly for about two months. Had a ball with it ... and always wondered how it would do going RTW and now I see it's done better than expected. I see them for sale now SO CHEAP around here ... and I'm tempted! :D:D:D |
