Today we have been driving around on the twins, and did some offroading. I even tried to go on a cross-circuit in sand, but the 250cc 2-stroke's scared me off. I was able to drive around there on anakee's though, but it was quite hard! ;-)
We also did a testdrive on a DR-Z400! We had no discussions on it during the testdrive, but quite some afterwards. Yes, I can imagine people driving around the world on it. And yes, it is a nice bike, enough power, nice and light... But: it didn't give us any shivers, and we were both thinking: we want to drive a BIKE. I think the decision has been made to go on the AT's...... |

I really don't think you will be disappointed... |
More and more we are thinking of making the final decision to go on the AT's...
I'm practising a lot with drifting; Mirjam is training a lot with lifting the bike..... :thumbup1: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/P1020496.jpg We are having a lot of fun, and planning the whole trip. In autumn this year we'll go to Morocco for a final testdrive! (already bought a trailer for the bikes ;-)) We both have H&B panniers (alu), but we'll try to sell them and buy Touratech/Zega instead. H&B is just not strong enough..... I would really like to go to the Ripley-meeting, but who wants to join? Please mail me a.s.a.p.! We can go cheap with my car, or with the bikes! |
2 months ago i had to make the same desission.
and i also bought a africa twin. |
Setup
Hi
... I used a XRV 650 from 1988. We drove 65000km in North-and Southamerica. I had to replace 1 chainset (DID X-ring and chainoiler), 1 clutch cable, 1 bulb headlight and 1 Vergasermembran (the rubber thing) inside the carburator. That`s it ... I used the Heidenau K 60 (140/80/17), which lasted about 25000km and no flat ! I bought the cheapest oil I could find (10W40 or 20W50), don`t use a K&N airfilter when it`s getting dusty, use the paperfilter! We used soft saddlebags, I personally don`t like the metal panniers (dangerous and very heavy) and we had custommade tanksidebags. If you want metal panniers I would recommend RMS RMS - Reinhard Guhr Rennsporttechnik he is very skilled metal welder and worked for the Sauber formula 1 team a couple of years ago.
