1150 gs

I'm planing to take my 1150gs to Maroco next year. Is there any specifics problems known with this bike (beside its weight) ?

Just a few ideas:

1)TPS is out in the open, easy to damage. Default TPS settings will kill MPG.
2)Gearing is too high for slow heavy travel without lots of clutch use/wear.
3)There are better shocks out there.

With a few custom modifications...

Have fun. I wish I was taking my 1150GS!!! chuck

1) you can have a low gearing on the R1150GS Adventure and, as far as I guess also on the regualar GS.
2) The bike has wo main problems. The first you allready mentioned; the wight. This in fact is only a realy problem by "standing". As soon as the bike is rolling, its like a bicycle!! Just avoid to get in situations where you have to push the whole tank:-)
Second; my Adventure needs 0.75 liters of oil each 1000km's which I find is allot!

Else this bike is the perfect traveller from modern highway to fairly rough sideroads.

Is this level of oil consumption usual for the 1100/1150 GS or is it due to the fact that as it's an "Adventure", it's a new-ish bike and still not run in? Does the consumption decrease with mileage? What is "TPS"?

I'm asking as I'm thinking of exchanging my R80GS Paralever for an 1100/1150GS in the near future.

Oil consumption on oilheads is usually:

1. not broken in yet - 10,000km needed

2. broken in too gently, and the rings have been unable to seat properly. Take it out and thrash it. DON'T baby it when new. Up to 300-500 km easy, then start to really use the revs in lower gears, by 1,000km use it fairly hard, redline in lower gears occasionally, by 1,500km RIDE it hard.
