Visa for Nepal

Hello everyone,

I am planning on entering Nepal on my Tiger800XCA (Swiss citizen, have a Carnet de passage).

I was wondering how you guys did it to get the visa for Nepal? Do you get one at the border ?

Also, are there many borders open from India ?

Thanks

Kiki

You can get a visa on arrival, pay in Dollars cash for the time you need from two weeks to three months, very easy with friendly immigration officers. There are three crossing points that foreigners can use, one in the west, one in the middle and one in the east, there are others but you will be turned away as only Nepalis and Indians can use them.

Okay great news.

I am thinking about the one in the west, do you have the name for it by any chance ?

Also, I have found that you don't even need the carnet de passage for Nepal :) is that true ?

I needed one when I entered on a UK registered bike but that was quite a few years ago now, this year I was on an Indian registered bike and no carnet needed but I am not sure about bikes from other countries.

I entered there a couple of months back and they wanted carnet both in and out. It was the first thing they asked for. They are very used to seeing overlanders.

Just roll up to the border and its a piece of cake mate. FYI, the customs due on the Nepali side can change money, INR to NR or visa versa, also, be aware that Bhimdatta Banbassa border has crossing times. Miss them and you wait hours. Check it out.
