Has anyone entered Iran by bike or car during July or August 2013?
Let us know if you did? Which crossing point? any issues? Regards, David |
Hi, yes I crossed into Iran with motorbike in july, entered from Turkmenistan, Bajgiran, and out via Tabriz to Turky. Great country and nice people!

Are you creating a 'chronicle'/ report of your Iran ride anywhere? There does not appear to be anything on the signature website. Facebook ? blog ? anything ? Not too many US passport folks get into Iran as solo bike travelers recently. I think many would be interested in the details of how you made these arrangements, and how your ride goes. It's a fascinating country!. good luck. |
We just came in from Pakistan.
Easy border crossing. No hassle. But the ride through Balochistan was no fun - Iran police escort suck big time! Cheers Panny |
Hi..
Did you guys need a Carnet for Iran ???? If so, can you remember the % for Iran ?? Thanks, Ted |
It a VERY high percent. $6300 value for my bike and gear, Iran, India, Burma, Nepal and Japan = $15,000 USD. I took Iran off of the calculator and it went down to $7k. Yes you need it.

I think I will go around Iran now  |
use the calculator on CAA. Com (Canadian Automobile Association) and see what you come up with.
I'm in Turkey now waiting for my carnet. Iran is next. Brennan |
For Iran, the carnet deposit has to be 100% of the current value of the vehicle. Same for India. I don't see how you'd get from $6300 to $15000?! The deposit for my three year old F800GS was no more than 4200 EUR. Maybe try another automobile club ;)

Yeah no shit, I should have shopped around! 2004gsa with high mileage. US registered, maybe that had something to do with it?
I used CAA. Who did you use? I'll discharge mine and do it with someone else as soon as I'm back to work... Brennan |

CAA is the only national auto club authorized to issue carnets for US registered vehicles. (US AAA gave it up 20+ years ago) Brit riders have been going through this issue recently: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...e-uk-rac-68191 Because the UK's authorized Carnet-issuing club, RAC, recently made its carnets effectively much more expensive, some Brits tried to get German auto club, ADAC, to issue carnet for UK-registered bikes. No dice. good luck |
I I got my carnet from the RACB in Belgium, but many Europeans get it from ADAC in Germany, which seems to be the easiest and also the cheapest. But like CourtFisher says, if you're in the US or Canada, you're probably stuck with your own automobile club.
