Thai borderdocuments
Hey guys,
Need your help on this one. I can not find it in the search option. I arrived in Thailand 2 weeks ago, flew in from Kathmandu. Got the white paper in BKK saying that I need to re-export the bike after 30 days or I get the 11000 dollar fine. Today I crossed the border with Laos. Gave the white paper to them... they didnt really knew what to do with it. So I got them to stamp the thing and a copy for me. What happens if I re-enter Thailand over a month? Do I get a new white paper at the border? At every border? I didnt do anything wrong did I? Thanks a lot, hope I can ease my mind. Its bothering me a bit... |
Hi Gert84,
You will get a new white paper for 30 days when you re-enter, you can then extend it another thirty days at customs office, Bangkok, chiang Mai, Etc! Take it easy! |
I don't think you can re=enter Thailand at Nonkai/Viantine border. Just made a loop from China/Laos/Cambodia/Thailand/Laos/China. I did not do any customs paper at Laos and had no problem getting through but do try this in Thailand:funmeteryes:

Have a look at the GT Rider website (Motorcycle Touring & Maps: Thailand : Laos : Golden Triangle) and the GT Rider Forum (The Golden Triangle Rider :: Index)

You didn't say at which border you left Thailand. It's all computerised and they should know what to do with the temp import permit. It has to be entered into the system as exported. If not, there will be a delay when you return the next time. This happened to me about 18 months ago. No big drama, they will sort it out in an hour or so. In my case they phoned the Mae Sai border post and got them to find the paper and punch it in.
As mentioned earlier in other posts, you can extend the permit 30 days at a time for up to 6 months. |
Thai border
here is some up to date info for you.
1/ It does not matter what border you cross in , at the moment all border crossings are open . I entered at the chiankong at the Golden Triagle. 2/ dont worry abut the white paper , you will get a new one when crossing back to Thailand either at vientiane or savannak. 3/ as you know Thailand have change its land border crossing regulations. YOU WILL ONLY GET 15 DAYS VISA!! if your staying more than 15days in thainland get a free 2 months visa at the Thai embassy in Vientiane it takes two days and its free until April 2010! Also the visa starts from the day you enter -valid for 3 months. 4/ Whatever you do make sure when ,re-entering Thailand, that you check the white paper ... I got my 60 day visa in vientiane but when entering Thailand they automatically gave me just 15 Days for the Bike... Fortunately I noticed this and asked for 60 days .. They were kind enough and gave my bike a 5 Months pass , the officer said " just in case you want to stay longer " Dont worry the thai official (after the Laos )are very nice and easy to deal with. Good Luck |
Thanks guys!
I feel better now. And I'll get the 2 month Thai-visa in Vientiane. I'm enjoying really enjoying Laos at the moment... But it gets really hot in the afternoon though. Pfff, I think I'm off to the mountains next. Again thanks! |

I left Thailand into malaysia about a month ago and didn't realise i was 9 days over the local carnet time. All they did was fine me 100 Bhat for each day i was over. As i didn't have enough cash they let me off with 500 Bhat (about 10 pounds).
So even if you go over your carnet it's not a big deal. Russ |

Bizarrely, coming back the other way a month later the Thais, who don't recognise the carnet either, wanted to stamp it this time. It was all a little wacky, especially since the carnet had expired by this time. Guess it depends who's on on the day. |
