Taking an Indian registered bike through Myanmar to Thailand

Does anyone know if it is possible or have experience of taking an Indian registered bike through Myanmar to Thailand? I have a bike in India and would like to make this trip on it, the bike is registered in the name of a friend there and he would give me a letter authorising me to take it out of the country. Do you need a carnet for these countries?
I am aware of the other difficulties of travelling in Myanmar and the new rules regarding taking a foreign vehicle into Thailand.

It should be possible although quite costly and lots of paperwork/red tape too.

But what are you going to do with the bike after Thailand? Return through to India through Myanmar? Continue to Malaysia, Indonesia etc? Anhow - you cant just leave or sell the bike in any of these countries, you will need to export it again out of the country.

Well, you can definitely take an Indian registered bike to Myanmar and unless they have some kind of special agreement, you need a karnet too. Not sure how it works with a karnet if you're not the owner - we are travelling in two, while my girlfriend is listed as a driver on one of the karnets, but I am always present at the crossings.

In Thailand they still asked us for a karnet, but used it only for the information.

Not sure where you got this information, have you taken an Indian bike into Myanmar ? I ask because I know it is impossible for a foreigner to get a CDP on an Indian bike, which would appear to make the statements above contradictory.
