srinagar in december?
 

hi,
is it possible to go there without going to freeze to dead?
i noticed, there's a 2800m high mountain to pass
any chances?

hi, were now in Amritsar and were planning to do a northern loop.. but just checked the weather forecasts on the net, and it doesnt look too promising.

If I remember correct, Srinagar was just nearly tolerable, some 8-10 C on the day, and around zero by night. But Manali, and especially Leh, seemed freakin cold, barely plus in the daytime, and even down to -10 C by night.

That (for me!) is a bit too cold, so maybe we wont go that way at all. Somebody mentioned, though, that Srinagar and MccleodGanj could weather-wise still be doable. But if your planning to go next month, will probably be even colder then. Cold is one thing, but bad weather (clouds, fog, etc) might not allow to see the mountains anyway, I think. Sure they would be majestic no doubt.

hi pecha, i'm still in quetta (my stomach is not 100% ok yet and bloomstar is a nice place to heal the wounds ;-)

you are right, srinagar would be to too cold for me too.

Chances of Srinagar highway being open in month are all relative to when it snows and how much.

Leh Srinagar Highway - It will be very cold. Its has already snowed in some of the regions there and i believe the Rohtang Pass might get closed soon.
Will you freeze, Yes. Its pretty nippy there even in these days.

Jammu Srinagar Highway - Your chances on reaching srinagar are better if you take this highway. Though in it is not as interesting and breath taking as the leh-srinagar HW. The weather would be a wee-bit less cold.


I would suggest to check the weather pattern of the last couple of years, because i remember the valley being cut off from the rest of the country for several days because of continous snowfall. The Highways were closed and people got stuck in the middle.

For the last couple of years the Srinagar was cut off from the rest of the country because of unexpected high snowfall. People were stuck on the highway. So i guess, its not really the good time of the year to ride there.

We had to leave Amritsar about a week ago as the cold and more the damp conditions were a pain in the ****. We wanted to go north but decided to head south through Bikner then ending in Puskar. we found a nice hotel Navarona just down from the Braham temple for 300 a night with secure parking and a swimming pool!!!!! The weather is hot during the day but can be a bit chilly at night.

Think we will spend christmas here.
