Someone else's bike
 

Hi!
I'm considering buying a motorbike up in Kathmandu. It has a current carnet but it's Australian rego is expired. The suggestion is that I keep all the paperwork in the current owner's name and we do the paperwork to give me power of attorney over the bike.

I'm planning to go from Nepal, through India, north Pakistan, the NW corner of China (with a guide), Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and finally Turkey.

Is this mad? Has anyone done something similar with a bike in someone else's name?

Hi, not quite sure what you mean when you say the Aussie rego has expired, do you mean the CDP has expired ?

No the CDP is good but the vehicle registration (allowing it to be on the road back home) has run out.
