Saw some foreign bikes in Angkor Thom yesterday, anyone from here?

There were two Australian DRZ's and a German Transalp (i think)

Firstly.... How did you get in there? I hadn't tried because I thought it was local bikes only, I was going to try one of the less used entrances today.

Also, hello from an Australian DR650! I'm staying here another week to explore these temples.

It is possible to get in there on a bike, first go and buy your pass to get in then turn around go back down the road where you came from and turn left down one of the dirt tracks and basically what you want to do is bypass the checkpoint where you buy the tickets and you come out further up the road where there are no guards, once you are in nobody will bother you, worked for me on two occasions and its an intersting little detour through a network of dirt roads and little houses

Hi,

it was a Africa Twin you saw ;-).

Actually we had no problems with entering through the main gate or any other check points.
As long as you have a valid ticket it is no problem at all.

They just did not let us in any more, after our ticket was expired, although it should be allowed to use the roads inside. Without a valid ticket you just can´t walk inside the temples any more.

There are actually some ways, entries where there are no check points ;-)

Have fun in the temples and if you need some insider tips....

Ah! What's the flag on the tank? I got a photo of your bike there because I couldn't figure it out, and I still can't!

I've been using the tuktuks to cover the bigger temples because it's far too hot out there to consider riding after climbing over temples all day. I'll take my bike in to go find the smaller sites now I've been to the main sites though.

Eh... that's us!

Hey!
Was just skimming around on HU and totally by coincidence came across your post. How weird that we were there at the same time and didn't even see each other. Just had a quick look at your blog and you're in Nepal just like us. We're in Pokhara at the moment and will cross into India next week sometime. If you're in the area it would be fun to meet up. Let us know.

Regards

Sanne
