Overland through Burma possible

Now possible to go overland through Myanmar.
We met a couple in Goa that had got permission/visas in Delhi, now in Laos.

Sorry, it's in German.

Are we jealous, or what?

Has anyone followed this up? Is it a one off or have they eased up on the restrictions? My future travel plans include trying to get thru Myanmar.

Regards

Simon and Suzi who we met up with in India plan to cross into Myanmar on 15/06/04 having got their visas in Delhi - or so they told me last time we were in touch - their website is: www.mccs.co.uk/global

Hi,
Spoke to the embassy here in London 2 weeks ago and was told they woul dnot give me a visa because it was 'not appropriate' for me to ride on my own bike through Burma (Myanmar). http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif Look forward to keeping a track on these guys if they do make it through!

Unfortunately, these two write that they think they got the permission to go through by themselves by mistake. However, they also wrote that a group of German campervans went through ahead of them (although they never met them).

It seems, then, that at least organised trips with cars are possible.

We will have to keep watching the situation. It may yet improve.

It will be interesting to see whether anybody will take up the tour guys who "advertised" here on the HUBB recently and what experiences they will have.

I wonder if it is any easier to get permission at the embassy in Delhi (vs. London or elsewhere), perhaps they have had more experience with overland travel between the two countries?
