Nepal to Europe on Royal Enfield
 

Hi fellow travelers :)

I`m kind of travelling in Asia for the last 2 months and recently started to work on the bigger picture in order to keep myself busy. The more I thought about, the more the idea of driving home with a royal from india to europa turns out to be the best way to go for me. I`ve been riding motorcycles for over 15 years, so this shoudln t be a problem though. Reading through most of the threats about this very specific topic I still have some questions, hopefully some more experienced motorcycle travellers are willing to help :)

Route
As the only way to get the carnet as a non indian citizen, I will have to register and buy the bike in Nepal. I`ve read though that some travellers managed to register officially with the help of a enfield dealer when buying a new one. Considering that prices for these bikes in nepal are much higher, this could be an option as well?! Anyone with some experience reg this topic?
Routewise I might skip Pakistan as I cannot apply in person in my homecountry. After reading plenty of topics it turns out that for EUR citizens somehow it is only possible to apply in your home country. So the solution here will be to ship the bike from eg Mumbai to South of Iran. Any recent experience or recommendation reg shipping companies?

Carnet
I was planning to get my carnet via the german automotive association which shouldn`t be a big issue once ownership of the bike sorted properly. Just for my understanding of how the Carnet system works. I will have to block a certain amount of money of 3k euro as a deposit. My question would be as the bike is obviously not coming back to the country i bought it as rather will get exported to Europe, will it be possible to get a part of the deposit back at least partially ?

Have you checked the import requirements? You certainly won't pass a UK SVA with a home market Enfield. Even if older than Euro4 you'd need to buy a new headlight, fuel tank, tyres, mirrors etc. to get SVA. You can import it as a lawn ornament to start discharging the carnet, but it won't simplify anything..

You cannot register an Indian bike in your name unless you have Indian residency, doesn't make any difference if you buy it new !

Price for Enfield 350cc is USD 4500 and you can't register your name in the bluebook of the bike unless you are an Nepali citizen.

Bike registration for foreigner
 

I am a UK citizen in Nepal and purchased a brand new RE Himalayan last June in Ktm. I WAS able to have the bike registered in my name and a blue book issued.
If you are then travelling to India with the bike then you are required to pay a bond similar to a carnet with the Indian embassy which is refundable on returnto Nepal. Im not sure how this works when travelling onwards but many people have done it!

I bought a Nepali bullet in 2012 , registered the blue book in my name, got a CDP off the RAC in UK and rode it back. So it certainly is possible, I had to get an NOC from the British consul in Kat, but otherwise it was a fairly straightforward, if time consuming experience. I met a Dutch lad in Lahore who had done the same thing only got his CDP in Holland.

How difficult would it be to buy a second hand bike in UK (they depreciate quickly) then ship it to India or Nepal or other neighbouring country and ride it home ?

Shipping to Mumbai is relatively straightforward, although you will of course need to arrange your CDP before you leave and all of your visas, as the Indian visa starts on it's day of issue and the Pak visa is generally valid for 3 or 6 mnths and has to be obtained in your country of residence, this can cause some logistical problems.
